She wasn't able to meet her brother for 73 years and Barbara Jacobs was thrilled when she was reunited with her long lost sibling.
But Barbara was horrified after discovering the extent of abuse her brother Geoffrey Thomas suffered while he was in care.
During tonight's Long Lost Family: What Happened, Geoffrey was able to access his adoption file for the first time.
After his mum was forced to give him up, Geoffrey was taken in to Bernardo's until he was adopted at aged seven.
Geoffrey has no memories of his life before aged seven, but found out more details of his young life in the file.
The file included reports of his time in several foster homes, during which neighbours reported his foster parents for neglect.
Reports showed that neighbours told authorities that he had been badly treated, which included being tied up in their backyard.
Barbara was left devastated by the revelation and broke down in tears.
She cried: "Who would do that to a young boy? Thank god he can't remember."
Geoffrey was taken away from the foster parents, who were banned from looking after any more children after the reports of neglect.
However, Geoffrey also discovered that his biological dad George Holland paid for maintenance for his son and wrote many letters about him.
Geoffrey even stayed with his dad in his family home, but was forced back into care after George's wife said that she couldn't live with him.
Viewers were left in tears, with one tweeting: "Omg this is so sad #longlostfamily."
While another commented: "Amazing how people can have the worse upbringing but still be lovely people! #longlostfamily #poorjeffrey."
