The Leader of the Opposition and Leader of the Nationalist Party, Bernard Grech, said the country has to be pro-active in the employment sphere with an economy built on a just society where a worker will earn the deserved wage for the time worked and entrepreneurs will make the deserved profit equivalent to the risks they have undertaken.
During a meeting with the Malta Employers’ Association (MEA), Dr Grech said only in this manner can a society be established to address poverty and will have the capacity to be merciful and support those who are weak. He added that employers have to appreciate how important their employees are because together these form the fundamental basis of the economy.
The PN Leader said that therefore his emphasis is on the new social pact that embraces new methods of viewing employers and their employees. Referring to the MEA’s study that only 25% of employers allow teleworking, Dr Grech said the time has come for greater incentives and directives that will be offered to employees. He added that in this manner more persons will be induced to work from home.
